EAST STREET BALLET DANCERS AT YAGP
Launched in 2000 by former Bolshoi Ballet dancers Larisa and Gennadi Saveliev, the Youth America Grand Prix was organized as a stepping stone to provide extraordinary educational and professional opportunities to young student dancers. The event awards scholarships to the top ballet schools in the world. Since its inception it has become an internationally known meeting place for students and teachers, where they can exchange ideas, share their experiences and learn the most up-to-date information on a variety of dance issues. Dancers from Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Brazil, Italy, France, Canada, Australia, Portugal, Ukraine, Malasia, China, Romania, Korea, Panama, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, as well as the United States participate in the YAGP.

In preparing for these performances each student is challenged to learn complex choreography that requires not only technique but also tremendous artistry, musicality and stamina. Each student must show consummate discipline and focus and gains invaluable insights into the demands and joys of a career in classical ballet.

Dancers are required to prepare a classical ballet variation selected from an approved list provided by the YAGP and are involved in months of intensive coaching and rehearsal with their primary teacher Irina Vakhromeeva, herself an international artist.
